Know your own CV (check with the consultancy which version has been sent and at what salary etc)
Don't pick your nose or chew gum!
Firm handshake – look the interviewer in the eye, speak clearly and smile
Research the company – visit their website; go to the branches etc; have an opinion on their marketing as it stands
Prepare your questions in advance
Grooming is key – first impressions really do count
Make sure you're completely familiar with the job description
Make sure you know where you're going and give yourself time to park
Arrive 10 minutes early – but not earlier
Know who you're seeing – the ultimate snub is not to remember the interviewer's name
Positive, pro-active and optimistic behaviour is always more appealing than Mr or Ms Glum from Glumshire
NEVER berate your previous boss/colleagues/workplace – you'll be seen as a difficult person to work with and unprofessional
Answer their questions. Save what you want them to hear to later in the meeting
Ask for the job if you want it – or at least ask when you can expect to hear more (it's called closing the sale). Enthusiasm for the role is critical
Be personable but professional – don't be over familiar. They want an employee who can do the job NOT a new best friend
Say thank you
IN return and don’t be drawn into responding to questions about:
How old you are
Are you planning a family
How you manage childcare
Are you married
About your religious beliefs
Your sexual preferences
Your racial background
